(Created March 17, 2020 by Thomas W. Mitchiner)
THEODORE SERAMUS SWIFT (b. February 16, 1813 in Manchester, Vermont and d. February 15, 1860 Dalton, Whitfield, Georgia. Interned West Hill Cemetery). Married MENTORA MINERVA HANNON (b. June 10, 1821 in Mississippi and d. May 30 1873 in Campbell, Hunt, Texas). The eight known children of MINERVA and THEODORE SWIFT are:
1. FRANCIS "FANNIE" CORDELIA SWIFT (b. abt.1840 Mississippi and d. 1931 Dalton, Whitfield, Georgia. Interned West Hill Cemetery. Married October 27, 1859 Whitfield. Georgia WILLIAM CIECERO LESTER (b. February 15, 1835 and d. October 1894 Dalton Georgia. Interned West Hill Cemetery). Children: MARY "MOLLIE", LIZZIE B., FANNIE S., PAULINE, FLORA L., RUTH DALTON and MABLE.
(
2. JULIET SWIFT (b. January 3, 1842 Mississippi and d. (uk). Note: She is not in the 1850 Mississippi Census with her parents and siblings. No other definitive information.
3. ELIZABETH SWIFT (b. April 18, 1844 Mississippi and d. December 2, 1877 Greenville, Hunt Co., Texas. Interned East Mount Cemetery). Married JOHN LEE BEALL (b. March 12, 1841 Georgia and d. February 13, 1907 Hunt, Texas. Interned East Mount Cemetery). Children: EDWARD HENRY, GEORGE FRANKLIN and JOHN LEORY.
4. EDWARD SWIFT (b. 1846, Mississippi and d. July 12, 1919, Hunt, Texas. Interned East Mount Cemetery). Married September 29, 1875 MARY BALTHORP (b. April 30, 1853 and d. November 14, 1928. Interned East Mount Cemetery). Child: WINNIE ASILEE (b. October 29, 1876, Greenville, Hunt, Texas and d. August 18, 1969 Austin, Travis, Texas. Interned Forest Park Cemetery).
5. JANE "JENNI" SWIFT (b. 1849 Mississippi and d. before 1900). Married on December 20, 1866 JOSEPH CHATTEN MCCONNELL (b. September 17, 1841 and d. March 10, 1923). Children: BERTHA, FRANKIE, FLORENCE J., JOSEPH and JENNIE. She apparently died before 1900 as the wife of Joseph is America V. in 1900 Census for Greenville, Hunt Co., Texas. ARTHUR and WILLIAM LEE are sons by his second wife.
6. HENRY MARTIN SWIFT (b. October 10, 1853 Georgia, d. March 20, 1920 Hunt, Texas) Note: Presumed father of ROSS CLARENCE MITCHINER (b. July 10, 1880 Greenville, Texas and d. April 11, 1944 Highland, San Bernardino Co., California). Based on a Y- DNA 37 marker genetic distance of one match to Swift for a grandson of Ross C. Mitchiner the most likely father of Ross C. Mitchiner is Henry Swift. Additionally the same grandson has multiple autosomal matches with the Hannon surname which is the surname of the mother of Henry, Minerva (Hannon) Swift. Henry Swift is listed in the 1880 Hunt Co., TX census as a laborer in the household headed by Thomas W. Mitchiner. Henry is 27 and born in GA. Also in the household is Nancy, the wife of Thomas and their three daughters. The oldest daughter, Susan, is 14. Ross Clarence Mitchiner was born one month after the census was taken in 1880 and raised as the son of Thomas and Nancy. Susan married J.J. Weaver on December 12, 1881 and they had three daughters. Henry married Virginia California Alderson May 6, 1882 and he went on to become a teacher and later the Hunt County Superintendent of Public Instruction. Ross followed his father vocationally to become a teacher. Henry did not have any children in his marriage so Ross appears to be his only child. Henry witnessed the will of Thomas and Nancy on October 12, 1889. Ross was only 9 years old and Henry was probably looking out for the interest of Ross. Two of their daughters received five dollars each with the heirs of Susan to split five dollars. Ross got the house and the 42 and one half acres it was situated on as well as any remainder of their estate. The will was recorded on July 22, 1910 in Hunt Co., TX. Nancy died in October 1901 at age 61 and Thomas died in September 1909 at age 81. On July 19, 1910 Henry Swift appeared in open court to proof the will of Thomas and Nancy. Henry died March 20, 1920 at the age of 66 and is buried in the Merit Cemetery, Merit, Hunt Co., Texas. Ross died at age 64 of heart failure. Henry’s wife moved to Arizona to live with a son from her prior marriage.
7. THEODORE FREDRICK (FRED) SWIFT (b. December 20, 1857 Dalton, Whitfield, Georgia, d. December 13, 1930 Memphis, Hall, Texas, Interned Newlin Cemetery). Married January 4, 1886 FANNIE E. MANN (b. July 1, 1867 Wise Co., Texas and d. October 1, 1944 Memphis, Hall, Texas. Interned Newlin Cemetery). Children: THEODORE (b. October 28, 1887 and d. March 21, 1965 Memphis, Texas), ESTHER, EVERETT (b. August 13, 1889 and d. April 25, 1908. Interned Newlin Cemetery). JAMES, GROVER (b. September 8, 1892 and d. July 7, 1929, Interned Newlin Cemetery), ALMER, MARY, CLARENCE (b. May 12 1900 Wise, Texas and died June 28, 1908 Newlin, Hall, Texas, Interned Newlin Cemetery), HENRY, CLARENCE, MARGARET LOUISE "MAGGIE", AGNES, RUTH and IRENE.
8 MARY SWIFT (b. 1858 Dalton, Georgia and d. January 24, 1917 McKinney, Texas. Interned East Mount Cemetery). Married in 1878 THOMAS PEYTON BETHELL (b. August 15, 1858 Huntington, Carroll Co., Tennessee and d. February 12, 1930 Greenville, Hunt Co., Texas. Interned East Mount Cemetery). Children: FANNIE (b. March 9, 1880 and d. August 26, 1880), MABLE CLARIE (b. April 12, 1881 and d. May 27, 1881), BESSIE LUCILE, THOMAS MORTIMER, BAILEY ORLANDER, and HOWARD (b. September 28, 1893 and d. August 26, 1880).
