SILVEY, SILVY AND SYLVA
Covering the first five generations.
(FROM  VA  to ROANE CO.,  TN  to WEBSTER, DOUGLAS, and TANEY  CO.,  MO)

Written by Thomas W. Mitchiner for viewing on Webster Co., Douglas Co., and Taney Co. MOGenWeb and dedicated as a memorial to his Aunt Eunice Maxine Silvey (born February 13, 1924 and died May 26, 2009). She did the original research as a school project to trace her ancesters beginning with Charles Silvey. She added to this research new information throughout her life. Her research with some additional census information was first presented online February 20, 2000. Many descendants of Charles Silvey since then have contributed their family reseach and family stories. Although five generations of Silveys are buried in the Silvey Cemetery on the family farm in the Webster Co., Missouri, Finley TWP where Eunice grew up, few descendants today live in the area. POSSIBLE ORIGINS OF SILVEY/SILVY

The ancestors of all the Silveys and Silvys in America may have come from Scotland.  A review of Scots Origins reveals a number of Silvie/Selby/Silvy/Selbie/Sylvie lived in the areas of Perth and Kincardine in the 1700's. Scottish tartans define first ties to an area (district) or "homeland" and second a tartan may define blood ties as distinguished by "clan" tartans. Most of the names in the Silvey genealogy are Scottish in origin. According to Tartan for Me by Philip D. Smith, Silvie(y) and Sylvie(y) wear the Angus District tartan. Clan tartans are worn by Denney and by Johnston(e).
